The potential of MXene materials as a component in the catalyst layer for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

MXenes are a class of 2D/layered materials which highly conductive, hydrophilic, have large electrochemical surface area and easily processible into electrodes for energy applications. Since the discovery over ten years ago, these been mainly used in preparation batteries supercapacitors. However, due to their aforementioned properties, could potentially be utilised as component catalyst layer Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER). This opinion piece will discuss some recent literature hybrid catalysts consisting various Transition Metal Oxides (TMOs) OER. We also current drawbacks future outlook this new research.
